# Get started

> Connect your account and ask your first research question.

## 1. Check that you have access

Datalayer is currently available only to approved users. An installation link
does not give you access on its own.

Sign in to the [Datalayer dashboard](https://app.datalayer.so) using your approved
email. This is where you manage your account, see your remaining profiles and
contact support. You need an active profile allowance before searching for data.

## 2. Connect your AI assistant

Open the [installation guide](https://datalayer.so/install/) and choose your app.
Follow its instructions, then sign in when asked. Each app connects differently,
and some integrations are still being tested. Check the availability note before
starting. See [connect your assistant](/connect-your-assistant) for more help.

## 3. Start with a small search

Try this question, replacing the company name:

> Use Datalayer to search for Acme. Show up to five possible company matches. Wait for me to choose one before opening a full profile.

Search gives you a short list of matches. It does not use profiles, but it still
needs an active allowance. Check the company name and website to pick the right match.

## 4. Ask for the details

After choosing a match, ask:

> Open that company's Datalayer profile. Give me a short briefing for a client meeting, and flag anything missing or uncertain.

A successful new full-profile lookup uses one profile. Read
[how profiles work](/profiles-and-usage) before researching a larger list.

## 5. Review the result

Treat the answer as a research starting point. Company details and professional
roles can change. Ask your assistant to separate facts returned by Datalayer from
its own interpretation, and verify important details independently.
